‘Freedom Doesn't Correct: Naples Pride turns thirty and writes its platform in Neapolitan.

The Naples Pride Committee supports the political choice to use its native language before Italian and English: "A sign of a land that has always gone against the grain and a bulwark of civilization against authoritarianism."“

NAPLES – “Thirty years of hearts, fights and mistakes.. The Naples Pride Committee – composed of Antinoo Arcigay Napoli, ALFI Le Maree, Trans Naples Association (ATN), Vesuvius Pride, and Campania Rainbow Coordination – announces the publication of the political platform of the Naples Pride 2026, which will culminate in the parade of Saturday, June 27, preceded by ten days of Pride Park (Real Albergo dei Poveri, from 18 to 28 June).

On the occasion of the thirtieth anniversary of the first, courageous parade on 29 June 1996 – which marked the birth of the first Pride in Southern Italy and the third at national level, after Rome '94 and Bologna '95 – the Committee has made a radical and identity-based political choice: write the official platform in Neapolitan language, placing it historically and politically before the Italian and English versions.

A linguistic choice that is a precise act of reclamation and resistance. In a historical moment of severe social regression and government attacks on civil rights, the Neapolitan language becomes the instrument to give body and voice to the soul of a city and a land that have always been on the move. against the current. Naples, city of Mediterranean Pride, confirms itself as an open and fluid port, a cultural ecosystem that historically rejects borders, exclusion, and the normalization of bodies and existences. Choosing Neapolitan means establishing an immutable truth: ‘Freedom cannot be corrected.

The Naples Pride 2026 Committee firmly rejects the authoritarian, repressive and moralistic drift of the current political times and, in implementation of the’Article 11 of the Italian Constitution, repudiates war and militarist policies, denouncing cuts to welfare and healthcare in favor of the arms race.

The programmatic document is structured around these fundamental points:

  • Trans and Non-Binary Self-Determination:* Full support for the trans and enby (non-binary) community against systemic transphobia and policies of invisibilization. We challenge the current pathologizing approach and rigidly binarized documentation system. We demand immediate updating to international health protocols (WPATH SOC 8) for an affirmative and non-coercive medical relationship.
  • Right to housing and local welfare: A denunciation of the housing crisis exacerbated by rampant tourism. The call calls for the creation of shelters and shelters specifically for LGBTQIA+ people (especially trans women) who have been driven from their families and marginalized.
  • Public health and the fight against stigma (U=U): A demand for free and accessible public healthcare, against all barriers, to ensure everyone's constitutional right to health. Reaffirmation of the scientific principle U=U (Undetectable = Untransmittable) against the stigma and moralization that still affect people living with HIV and sexually transmitted infections.
  • Full recognition of homosexual and transparental families: immediate and automatic protection of children for emotional continuity and recognition of their family at birth, overcoming the insufficiency of the never recognized, stepchild adoption and rejecting the criminalization of surrogacy.
  • Safe and inclusive schools and universities: Countering cis-normativity in places of knowledge. Request for systematic adoption of alias careers, protection for the trans kids and minors gender creative, and the mandatory introduction of sexual-emotional and gender education in schools.
  • Intersectionality and Human Migration Policies: Strong opposition to the new EU Pact on Immigration and Asylum and the construction of new administrative detention facilities (such as the CPR planned for Castelvolturno). Greater protections for LGBTQIA+ migrants, especially for trans women migrants, who are vulnerable to trafficking and lack adequate pathways to social inclusion. Immediate citizenship recognition for those who live, study, and work in our country.
  • Fighting patriarchy and banning conversion therapies: Call for legislative and cultural tools to ban criminal "conversion therapies" in all contexts. An unbreakable alliance with transfeminist approaches.
  • Protection and dignity of sex work: recognition of sex work as a form of self-determination that must be freed from economic and moral stigma.
  • Valorization of local tradition: recognition, respect and material resources for the historic community and tradition of the territory (feminine, masculine, queeriniell*).

Thirty years ago, Naples was ahead of its time, dictating the political agenda for rights in Southern Italy and throughout the country. Today, in 2026, Naples Pride renews that pact with its people, the city, and the country, with the tenacity of those who know that life and love cannot be constrained by the singular models of propaganda.

Because for thirty years, in Napule, freedom has not been corrected.
