Shocked by what happened in Camaiore, we join those who loved the victims.
Florence, June 25, 2026 – "We are shocked by the news of the double murder that occurred yesterday in Camaiore," declared the board of Arcigay Altre Sponde of Florence, "and we stand with those who loved Mirko Moriconi and Kety Andreoni. While we wait for clarity on the reasons for what happened, we cannot help but reflect on the post Mirko wrote on his social media profile a few years ago, stating that his father would have been better off with a dead son than with a gay one. Just as we cannot help but reflect on what the killer reportedly said: 'I've gotten rid of them.'".
Patriarchy and homo-lesbian-transphobia kill, we have always said, just as hatred and negative values, constantly fueled, even by politics, create the cultural humus where violence finds a foothold.
All the more reason we believe that safe spaces for listening and support are necessary today, as they were yesterday, and unfortunately tomorrow, for those who experience discrimination on a daily basis. Spaces like the Altresponde Anti-Discrimination Center in Florence, like other regional centers, and like places where those who have been threatened and exposed to physical violence can find shelter, a listening ear, and guidance.
“"We denounce hatred, we appeal to existing laws to protect lives, yet this hatred is still denied, minimized, and mocked: an equally violent approach," concludes the board of Arcigay Firenze Altresponde. "There's a common thread linking the comments under our activists' social media posts to what happened yesterday. We are here, we were there, and we will continue to be here, for all of us.".
