Political Claims of Salerno Pride 2026
WITHOUT EXCLUSION OF BODIES
Salerno Pride 2026 arises in a political and social context marked by a regression in rights and a growing attempt to control bodies, identities, and individual and collective freedoms. "Without Excluding Bodies" is a clear political position: no person should be left behind, no existence should be considered marginal, no right should be subordinated to the logic of power, consensus, or convenience.
Bodily self-determination is the foundation of any democracy. And today it is under attack.
The policies implemented in the United States by Donald Trump against LGBTQIA+ people, as well as the laws passed in countries like Senegal that criminalize the very existence of LGBTQIA+ people, are not isolated incidents. They are part of a global strategy that uses minorities as political targets.
Targeting LGBTQIA+ people, women, migrants, atheists, and any marginalized group means building consensus through fear, reinforcing social hierarchies, and redefining who has the right to fully exist and who should be excluded or made invisible. Minorities are scapegoated, not because they pose a threat, but because they serve to consolidate power and divert attention from structural inequalities. When minorities are targeted, democracy as a whole is weakened.
This process is also evident in Italy. The government's populist and right-wing policies are progressively restricting the scope for self-determination, calling rights into question. The laws that make surrogacy a universal crime and the systematic attacks on sexual and emotional education in schools fail to protect: they breed stigma, exclusion, and control. The Valditara Bill also fits into this framework, further limiting the ability to address fundamental issues related to sexual and emotional education, respect for differences, and consent in schools, restricting educational autonomy and imposing an exclusionary cultural model. In this context, education becomes a central area of political conflict. We demand a public, secular, accessible, and inclusive education, guaranteed to all, capable of providing critical tools, knowledge, and awareness, and not reproducing exclusionary or ideological models. We also demand the recognition and expansion of alias careers in schools and universities, as a concrete tool for self-determination and respect for identities.
We demand policies that guarantee freedom, not restrict it. Added to this is the concrete risk posed by justice reforms, which aim to weaken it and subject it to political power. It is precisely thanks to the judiciary that, in recent years, the LGBTQIA+ community has seen fundamental rights recognized. Weakening the justice system jeopardizes the protection of rights and the democratic balance of the country. At the same time, the so-called seven security decrees and the growing use of authoritarian policies risk transforming police forces into ideological instruments of the government, more focused on control and repression than on the protection of rights. This particularly affects the most vulnerable, including migrants, who are often victims of exploitation, invisibility, and the denial of fundamental rights, even in the workplaces of our country. We demand full respect for Article 10 of the Constitution, which guarantees the right to asylum, and a review of the policies that are making access to international protection increasingly complex and limited.
In this context, transfeminism is not an abstract concept, but a concrete political position. It means affirming that no one can decide on the bodies of others. It means recognizing that control over bodies manifests itself whenever individual freedoms are restricted: when the right to abortion is obstructed, when the end of life is denied, when identities are questioned, when unique models of existence are imposed. Transfeminism places the freedom of self-determination of each person at the center and rejects any hierarchy between bodies and identities. This is why we demand that self-determination be full and guaranteed for all. Discrimination never acts in isolation. They intertwine and reinforce each other, producing conditions of greater exclusion for those who experience multiple dimensions of marginalization. Being LGBTQIA+, being a woman, being a migrant, being poor, being disabled, being atheist often means being exposed to a system that multiplies inequalities. This system is also manifested in physical spaces: in architectural barriers, in the lack of accessible spaces, in the absence of truly inclusive environments, but also in the management and transformation of territories. The increasingly evident climate crisis affects unequally and worsens the living conditions of the most vulnerable, while short-sighted policies continue to deny its extent or postpone necessary interventions. The attack on the environment is also an attack on bodies and on the possibilities for living with dignity. All this is accompanied by economic policies that accentuate inequalities, make work precarious, and disproportionately affect already marginalized people, further limiting their opportunities for self-determination. We demand fair, redistributive, and inclusive economic policies that guarantee dignity, access to resources, and real opportunities for all. We demand cities and territories that are accessible, inclusive, sustainable, and safe for all. This is why intersectionality is a necessary political practice: there is no real freedom if it is not guaranteed to all.
Violence that affects people's bodies isn't a one-off occurrence. Femicides, gender-based violence, bullying, and homosexual, lesbian, and transphobic bullying are expressions of a culture that doesn't recognize the autonomy and freedom of others. We demand structural policies to prevent and combat these acts of violence.
We also call for an effective law against homolesbobitransphobia, which guarantees real protection for LGBTQIA+ people in Italy and in every country. Rights cannot be left to the discretion of political or geographical contexts. This is why it is essential to introduce sexual and emotional education in schools at all levels: a concrete tool for prevention, building respect, and recognizing consent. At the same time, we view the political debate on the topic of consent with great concern. Proposed amendments to the law on sexual violence risk shifting the focus from consent to evidence of violence, weakening the centrality of the individual's will. Consent must remain central: free, explicit, and self-determined.
We demand the right to bodily self-determination in every aspect of life: the right to abortion, still impeded today; the right to the end of life, still denied; the right to health, which must be fully guaranteed.
It's no coincidence that the healthcare system faces significant challenges: difficult access to services, unacceptable waiting times, and a lack of truly inclusive programs for LGBTQIA+ people. HIV and sexually transmitted infections continue to be addressed with delays, amidst stigma and insufficient prevention. We call for investment, prevention, and accessible services, because healthcare cannot be a privilege but a universal right. We also demand a paradigm shift in sex work: those who engage in it must have rights, protection, and safety. Criminalization does not protect, but rather increases vulnerability and exploitation.
We also demand full recognition of same-sex families and their rights, starting with the protection of minors and the legal recognition of both parents. We call for a reform of the adoption system that overcomes all discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity, guaranteeing equal rights and opportunities for all. At the same time, we reiterate the need to explicitly and definitively ban so-called reparative or conversion therapies, violent and discriminatory practices that deny the identity of LGBTQIA+ people. We demand that Italy fully adopt and implement the European Union's guidelines and resolutions on this matter, putting an end to any form of legitimization, even indirect, of these practices.
The self-determination of bodies is inseparable from that of peoples. We cannot remain silent in the face of the genocide of the Palestinian people and the grave violations of international law documented by Amnesty International and the UN. We reject any attempt to normalize war, including superficial truces that neither stop violence nor guarantee justice. At the same time, we are witnessing a growing arms race, which diverts resources from fundamental rights such as health, education, and welfare, fueling conflict rather than paths to peace. We oppose these choices and call for policies geared toward cooperation, social justice, and the construction of real and lasting peace. We stand with the Palestinian people and all populations suffering war and oppression. We stand with the Kurdish, Ukrainian, and Iranian peoples, and with all those experiencing conditions of war, violence, and the denial of rights. We reject war as a political instrument, especially when it becomes a means of oppressing peoples.
These inequalities are also evident in our region. The province of Salerno continues to lose young people, forced to leave in search of opportunities, jobs, and freedom. We demand policies that allow people to stay, live, and build their futures without being forced to leave.
Salerno Pride 2026 is a political and collective space for assertion and visibility: a place where no body is excluded, made invisible, or denied, and where every body asserts itself as a vision of the future, within a shared path to be built and practiced collectively.
