Pride Wave parade in Agrigento today. Piazzoni (Arcigay): "The answer to Vannacci's reactionary obscurity is the obstinacy of our seventy marches."“

August 29, 2026 – The 2026 Pride Wave, the major national mobilization in support of LGBTQIA+ rights organized by Arcigay and other local and national associations, continues. Today marks a historic moment for all of western Sicily: for the first time, Agrigento, the city of temples, is hosting its Pride Parade. The rally is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. in Piazza Municipio.

“"Today we are in Agrigento, in the heart of Sicily, for the 58th parade of this season of Onda Pride," says Gabriele Piazzoni, general secretary of Arcigay. "The most beautiful response to those who would like us invisible, to those who have made hate the driving force of their consensus. I am speaking of the National Future program presented by Roberto Vannacci in recent days, a document of rare reactionary obscurity that leaves no room for interpretation: no to abortion, no to civil unions, a "protected group" against LGBTQIA+ people in the media, trans people removed from the public healthcare system, mandatory military education in schools. Reading these proposals all together is shocking: they are a political project that capitalizes on hate, that calls into question decades of social and civil struggles, that seeks to erase the principle of self-determination, that imagines an Italy in which the dictatorial state decides who can love, who can become a parent, who can decide about their own body, who can express their identity. We respond with our stubbornness: With seventy marches crossing this country from north to south, from large cities to small villages, from the suburbs to the squares of provincial capitals. We are here to say that another Italy is possible: an Italy that isn't afraid of differences, that doesn't consider sexual orientation a whim or an illness, freedom of choice a threat, women's bodies an object to be manipulated, a person's identity an ideology,“ concludes Piazzoni.
