Dedicated to the gay Piedmontese intellectual Octavio Mai, which marks the tenth anniversary of his death, the new Arcigay Club of Ivrea held its founding assembly on Thursday, November 7.

In the presence of dozens of people, the vast majority young gay and lesbian people, Andrea Benedino, National Councilor of Arcigay, President of the Ivrea City Council, and the first prominent figure from Ivrea to come out a few years ago, outlined the program of the new association, which will aim to develop cultural and social initiatives that appeal to society as a whole. Special attention will be paid to youth, given the large number of young people and young adults within the association, who, among other things, have already formed a dedicated working group called Paricchia.
The Assembly voted by acclamation to adopt the Statute and the new Board of Directors, which includes, among others, Andrea De Marchi, a well-known writer living in Chivasso.
Representing Arcigay Ivrea will be Adriano Virone, President, a cultural activist who in recent years has organized events such as Ivrea la Gaya and collaborated with the Turin International Gay Film Festival, and Sonia De Stefano, Vice President, a feisty student who, in addition to representing young people, will also work specifically with women. The club will also continue organizing the highly successful Nottalgia evenings, which began a year ago as an informal group.
Arcigay National Secretary Aurelio Mancuso conveyed greetings from the Association and outlined its goals and the program it is pursuing nationally.
The Ivrea Circle will formally join Arcigay on December 8th, when the National Council ratifies its membership. Meanwhile, the gay and lesbian people of Ivrea concluded their meeting with a toast, and will continue to do so in the coming days.
