Press Release: "Enough Homophobia" Demonstration in Piazzetta Audifreddi in Cuneo on May 17th at 6pm
The International Day Against Homophobia and Transphobia (IDAHO) is an event promoted by the European Union and celebrated annually on May 17th since 2007. The aim of the day is to promote and coordinate international awareness-raising and prevention events to combat homophobia and transphobia. The Municipality of Cuneo and the Piedmont Region have committed, through motions approved last year, to supporting this day and related events.
Agedo Cuneo is organizing an event titled "Enough Homophobia" on May 17th at 6:00 PM in Piazzetta Audifreddi in Cuneo. The event aims to provide a moment of reflection and reflection. Music, readings, and testimonies will be presented from the stage by representatives of institutions and associations, with the participation of the theater group
Lea Carelli stated: "Agedo Cuneo strongly supported and worked to organize this demonstration so that people would understand that homophobia and transphobia are still killing people in Italy today. Homophobia and transphobia are a dark evil in our society. We must break the silence that often accompanies these situations. This is why we want to build a bridge on May 17th and allow people to understand the evil that is perpetrated daily through jokes, insults, exclusion, mobbing, and even violence and even the killing of LGBT people. To put a stop to all this, we must first tear away the veil of silence that often accompanies these situations: we want to speak directly to people's hearts to bring hope, the hope of a new society where all differences are valued. Where no parent should be ashamed of having a gay child, where no son or daughter should be afraid to come out to their parents. Where no one should be afraid of losing their job or being attacked. Therefore, at the end of the demonstration, we will distribute hearts that people can take home with them to remember." Every day, we have made a commitment. The commitment to stand alongside gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender people. We thank the Municipality of Cuneo, which promptly welcomed our initiative, the Province of Cuneo, the Municipalities of Boves and Borgo San Dalmazzo for their patronage, and all the associations that support us and will be participating in the event. The event has received the patronage of: the Municipality of Cuneo, the Municipality of Boves, the Municipality of Borgo San Dalmazzo, Amnesty International, the Province of Cuneo, the Boves School of Peace, SNOQ, Arci, Mente in Pace, Emmaus, Onthebus, the Cuneo Anti-Violence Network, and the Arcigay Figli della Luna Territorial Committee of Cuneo.

Five Hundred Million Stars
Presentation of Mabel Morri's graphic novel and display of original illustrations. The author will be present.
Rebecca was born and raised in Rimini. She has a symbiotic relationship with her mother and is unable to deal with her own feelings. Her life is a succession of happy hours, unresolved relationships with friends who often turn out to be mere acquaintances. Then, one day, she meets Caterina. It's never been easy to let go of someone else, but this time is different. Rebecca is finally happy, at least until she realizes that it's more than just friendship that binds her to Caterina. After moments of hesitation, she decides to follow her heart.
A graphic novel that clearly, decisively, and unambiguously reveals the female homosexual universe. Mabel Morri unequivocally tells us about the other half of the world, writing an Italian story with a lesbian theme.

Reggio Calabria
On Friday, May 10, at 8:30 pm, the Teatro Politeama Siracusa in Reggio Calabria will host a screening of Srdjan Dragojevic's film "The Parade," winner of the Audience Award at the 2012 Berlin Film Festival – Panorama Section – and a Special Mention (in addition to numerous awards at other international festivals, including the Audience Award at the 2012 Turin GLBT Festival and first prize at Medfilm in Rome 2012). The film was a box office hit in Serbia (the film's producer) and other countries of the former Yugoslavia. This comedy, with a profoundly thoughtful irony, addresses the difficulty of asserting one's rights, narrating the desire to be able to demonstrate freely at a Gay Pride parade. At the center of the film is a homophobic, middle-aged Serbian gangster who ends up escorting the Pride parade to protect gay freedom in his country. The screening will be attended by director Srdjan Dragojevic and is the only Calabrian stop currently scheduled. At the opening of the evening, at 8:30 pm, immediately before the film screening, the activities organized by the May 17th Committee for the International Day Against Homophobia will be explained in detail, and the program for May 17th and 18th will be presented. All interested citizens are invited to attend, including viewing the film and the program of activities planned for the International Day Against Homophobia.

Against homophobia and transphobia, to denounce and fight against all physical, moral, or symbolic violence related to sexual orientation.
This year, too, the "May 17th Committee" was formed for the occasion, a group of associations, parties, and movements that organized two days of events open to the city, with the aim of reflecting on discrimination, homophobia, and homosexuality.
At the proposal of Arcigay “I Due Mari” of Reggio Calabria, the Snap Cultural Association, Clean Energy, Anpi, Queerevolution, Se Non Ora Quando RC, Meet up 162 Movimento 5 Stelle Reggio Calabria, Arcigay “Kaleidos” Lamezia Terme (CZ), Centro Studio Danza Sports Association, Animalisti Italiani Onlus, as well as Ethos, Libera, the White Angels Association, Emergency, Rifondazione Comunista, the Provincial Federation Left Ecology and Freedom RC, Jineca Association, LAV Reggio Calabria, Magnolia Cultural Association, Flc Cgil, Italo Falcomatà Foundation, Prometeo Onlus, Observatory on the 'Ndrangheta, ARCI Reggio Calabria and ARCI Rosarno ‘Casa del Popolo G. Valarioti“ have united on a shared program under the slogan ”Rights for our path“.
On Friday, May 17th, at 6:00 PM sharp, on the steps of the Teatro Comunale F. Cilea, the KissFlag will take place. A kiss, a simple yet powerful gesture. A way to represent reality and assert the rights that more and more countries around the world are recognizing for same-sex couples, while in Italy the lives, affections, and dignity of millions of people continue to be postponed and ignored. A moment of vindication, but also of reflection and joy, which aims to visually underscore the strong demand for the rights still denied to the LGBT population.
On Saturday, May 18th, starting at 5:00 PM on the Lungomare Stele Falcomatà, registration will open for the Marathon Against Homophobia: A Race for Rights for a Civil Society. The opening show will take place at 5:45 PM, and the Marathon will begin at 6:00 PM.
Taking action, working to secure the recognition of civil rights for LGBTQ+ people and to spread a culture of respect for diversity against homophobia and transphobia is the primary goal of every LGBTQ+ person and of civil society as a whole. Acting for rights is a shared battle of civilization: it is symbolically a race toward a more evolved and just society; a race that encounters, along its sometimes tortuous path, numerous socio-cultural and political obstacles and setbacks, yet nonetheless unafraid of hardship and discouragement; a race in which everyone is invited to participate. A race that will only end in victory if we all reach the finish line together. And at the finish line, there will be an information booth to gather activists from across the two days.
The entire program enjoys the moral patronage of the Regional Commission for Equal Opportunities between Men and Women, the Office of the Regional Equality Advisor, the Province of Reggio Calabria, and the Equal Opportunities Commission of the Municipality of Villa S. Giovanni.
These days will be an opportunity open to all who wish to accept this invitation, for a free-from prejudice reflection on the rights of LGBT people, for a battle that aims to be effective and, for this very reason, more widely shared, which requires the participation of all Reggio citizens who believe in a State that protects all its citizens without distinction.

Arcigay “Alan M. Turing” Rimini, Arcigay Nazionale, CGIL Rimini, ANPI Rimini, Arci Rimini, Coordinamento Donne Rimini, with the patronage of the Province and Municipality of Rimini, wish to send a signal of awareness and presence to counter the worsening violence experienced in our country and the homophobia pervading our cities.
May 17 is the International Day Against Homophobia and Transphobia, established in 2007 by the European Union.
Homophobia is expressed not only in brutal acts of physical violence against homosexuals, but also in discriminatory and exclusionary attitudes toward LGBT people. In Italy, institutions are slow to take concrete action on the issue of formal and substantive equality for all citizens, and this day in the square will be the means to amplify a civic voice, a unanimous demand for evolution and revolution.
Collective conscience, support from the entire civil society and the institutions of our province, this is what we ask. The fight for rights must be shared and supported by all citizens. A country that does not recognize the same rights for all its citizens is a violent and uncivilized country.
On May 17th, we will take to Piazza Cavour to assert our demands for civility, and we will do so in the way we love most: through joy, laughter, and the communicative energy typical of celebration.
Distinguished guests, music, entertainment, and content, for a renewed, inclusive city that opposes all forms of discrimination.

Brotherhood
A story of love and identity. Lars leaves the army and joins a neo-Nazi group that organizes punitive raids against Arabs and homosexuals. His apprenticeship in the "brotherhood" is tough, and Lars is paired with a mentor, Jimmy, who is tasked with testing his reliability and knowledge of key texts like Mein Kampf. Unpredictably, passion ignites between the two. A love lived in secret, until the group's racist and violent rules eventually force the lovers to face the inevitable contradiction: betray their ideological "brothers" or betray each other and their own feelings. Either choice will lead straight to violence, physical or mental. (cinemagay.it)

Siena
A packed program from May 10th to 18th in Siena, promoted by the Pansexual Movement Arcigay Siena and the provincial Arci Week against Homophobia: eight days of initiatives against prejudices and clichés
Bacaro and Pallecchi: "Diversity must be seen as a factor in societal growth."“
Eight days of meetings, book presentations, documentary screenings, and other initiatives dedicated to homophobia and the LGBTQI (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, and intersex) community are scheduled in Siena from Friday, May 10th to Saturday, May 18th. This week's program, "Homophobic is not logic – Why love between equals is not so different," returns to coincide with the International Day for the Elimination of Homophobia, scheduled for May 17th. The events are promoted by the Siena Provincial Association (ARCI) and the pansexual movement (ARCIGAY Siena) as part of the activities planned by the Provincial Observatory against Discrimination, with the patronage of the Province.
“"The Week Against Homophobia," say Giovanni Bacaro and Serenella Pallecchi, presidents of the Pansexual Movement Arcigay Siena and the Provincial ARCI of Siena, respectively, "aims to be an opportunity to raise public awareness about respect for the rights of homosexual and transgender citizens, who are too often judged and singled out for their sexual orientation based on unfounded and offensive prejudices and clichés. With a rich program of meetings and initiatives, we aim to foster discussion, dialogue, and serious and genuine awareness of these issues and the fact that Italy still lacks any legislative protection against homophobia. 'Diversity' is an added value and a factor in the growth of our society. It is not a limitation or, worse still, a problem.".
Anti-Homophobia Week will open on Friday, May 10th with the "Verba volant, scripta...queer!" event, which will run until Sunday, May 12th, featuring three days of book presentations of LGBTQ+ literature. The first event will be held at the Ancilli bookshop, located at Via delle Terme 45; on Saturday, May 11th, it will be held at the "La Zona" bookshop, located at Via Provenzano Salvani 8; while the third day of the event, Sunday, May 12th, will be held at the CubaLibro bookshop, located at the Porta Siena shopping center. All events begin at 5:30 pm and admission is free. Anti-Homophobia Week will continue on Tuesday, May 14th with the screening of the documentary "L'amore e basta," which tells the love stories of nine gay and lesbian couples. The event will begin at 5:30 pm at the Circolo Arci Centro, located at Via di Città 101, and will be followed by a discussion on the theme of Stefano Consiglio's film. Wednesday, May 15th, will feature Aperipan, a gay-friendly aperitif starting at 8:00 PM at Bar Termini, located at Via dei Termini 46, with the presentation of the national literary competition "Parliamo d'amore." On Thursday, May 16th, at 5:30 PM, the Circolo Arci Centro will host the debate "Homobullying: Education and Diversity," dedicated to schools and youth in the Siena area, with the participation of experts in the field. During the evening, the "Concerto per Voce Sola" (Concert for Sola) first-time listening service will also be presented.
On Friday, May 17, the International Day Against Homophobia, a memorandum of understanding will be presented and signed by the Pansexual Movement – Arcigay of Siena and the Provincial Arci of Siena with all the province's media outlets – print, radio, TV, and online – urging journalists to report with the utmost care all matters concerning LGBTQ+ people and any discriminatory incidents related to homophobia and transphobia, while respecting the inalienable rights of every individual, including sexual orientation. The event will be accompanied by an information booth set up all day at Madonna delle Nevi (on Via Montanini) and a Glitter evening starting at 11:00 PM at the Foriporta venue in Coroncina. The final day, Saturday, May 18, will be dedicated to unity through the values of sport. At 3 pm, in fact, at Prato di S. Agostino, a fun initiative is planned, created in collaboration with the Siena Rugby 2000 players, who will perform a touch rugby demonstration entitled "Score a Goal Against Homophobia.".
Syracuse

May 17, 2013 International Day Against Homophobia and Transphobia
Premise:
• Given the rampant cases of homophobia in Italy and particularly in our province (such as the case of the Priolo Gargallo youths who carried out punitive raids against homosexuals);
• given the cases of homophobia present in schools and brought to light by some young people within our association, Arcigay Siracusa;
• given the importance of this date, May 17, 2013, recognized as the international day against homophobia and transphobia,
Arcigay, in collaboration with the municipal youth council and other associations, is launching a program aimed at raising student awareness about homophobia and discrimination against those perceived as "different." Therefore, on Friday, May 17, we will be present at two schools: from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. at the Enrico Fermi Technical Institute of Syracuse; and from 11:00 to 1:00 p.m. at the Antonello Gagini Art School in Syracuse. During this meeting, fourth- and fifth-year students will be shown a 20-minute video against homophobia. We will then distribute questionnaires developed by Dr. Maria Vittoria Zaccagnini to both teachers and students. Interested parties will return the completed questionnaires completely anonymously, and based on these, the doctor and Arcigay will work on producing an experiential report, to be delivered to the participating schools by October 2013. LesClick – A Women's Perspective on the Women of Pride
photographic exhibition
Monday, May 13th
7:00 PM
at the Civic Library of Chivasso
on the occasion of the Week Against Homo/Transphobia
Presentation of the exhibition conceived and designed by Spazio Donne of Arcigay Turin
On the occasion of last year's Turin Pride, the Women's Space of Arcigay Turin promoted a photography contest with the aim of highlighting the female presence at the parade. Often, the image offered by the media about Pride tends to focus on
the focus on sequins, ostrich feathers and bodybuilders, leaving everything that isn't flashy in the background, including female participation.
For this reason, the initiative aimed to collect the greatest number of photos taken during the procession to offer a female point of view and at the same time push the participants themselves to
become the architects of their own visibility.
The competition attracted a large number of participants, and each photo shows how different the perception of the parade can be.
The exhibition is now presented in collaboration with the Municipality of
Chivasso.
The exhibition will continue until Saturday, May 18th and can be visited during the following hours: Monday, Thursday, and Friday, 2:30 PM–7:00 PM; Tuesday, 9:00 AM–7:00 PM.

The Maschio Angioino will be lit up in pink for the International Day Against Homophobia on May 16, 17, and 18!
May 17, 2013
Homophobia is the irrational fear and aversion towards homosexuality and gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender people, based on prejudice. The European Union considers it analogous to racism, xenophobia, anti-Semitism, and sexism. Despite a continued and gradual openness in society and some political sectors to the inclusion of homosexuals, the International Day for the Elimination of Homophobia and Transphobia, celebrated worldwide on May 17, represents an important moment of reflection and human and intellectual enrichment, aimed at countering any hateful discriminatory behavior perpetrated against the LGBT community. Arcigay Napoli, with the support of the Department of Equal Opportunities of the Municipality of Naples and in collaboration with the Campania Pride Coordination Committee, has organized a day dedicated to cultural initiatives and sporting activities to mark May 17, 2013. This day is based on the belief that culture and sport are complementary and synergistic tools for eliminating any preconceived notions of intolerance and hostility toward homosexual and transgender people.
