HIV/AIDS: Arcigay Modena Promotes Testing

Arcigay Modena in collaboration with ASA97 and the Modena Department of Infectious Diseases organizes the TEST DAYs for next November 22nd, 23rd and 24th.

During the days, you will be able to undergo HIV testing with the psychological support provided by Arcigay. We will give the floor to: Alberto Bignardi by Arcigay Modena.

What is a test day?

A Test Day is a day (or rather two, between the collection and the delivery of the results) during which Arcigay organizes initiatives to promote HIV testing. These initiatives, of course, take place at recognized and safe facilities such as general hospitals, where health and anonymity (and free testing) are guaranteed. In our case, we also wanted to offer the support of a counselor-psychologist for those who need a listening ear, discussion, and help, or are simply a little nervous at such an important time.

Why is HIV/AIDS testing important?

An HIV test is important for at least 300 reasons. It allows you to determine your serological status, that is, whether you are HIV-positive or not. Knowing it is essential to respect yourself and your partner (or partners, for polygamists!), and it allows you to take immediate action against the virus if you are HIV-positive. In short, knowing and monitoring your health status is essential.

And you've decided to organize it in Modena. How will it work?

In our case on November 22nd, 23rd and 24th, by appointment, even anonymous (to be made by writing to [email protected] ), you can meet our Counsellor Maria De Paola and then proceed to the collection.

The following week, again by appointment, the test results will be delivered, with the subsequent opportunity to meet with the counselor. Between these two appointments, psychological support is always available for any test-related needs. Please note that booking is completely anonymous, even using a fictitious name!

So, together, can we overcome the fear of taking the test?

Of course! We've set up two different ways to meet all your needs. You can do it alone, or you can do it all together one day to reduce that test anxiety! Did you know it works well to take the test in company?

Of course, we're only talking about the blood sample; the results are always delivered to the person who took them—in other words, one-to-one! For the bravest and most solitary, remember that the test is available year-round at the hospital (free and anonymous).

Let's repeat: will the test results be collected privately?

If by privately you mean not in a group, the answer is yes. Delivery always takes place in the presence of the infectious disease specialist (as arranged by the Polyclinic) and, upon request, also in the presence of the counselor.

Did you also invite politicians and members of institutions to the test?

No, but it's a great idea for future editions. We're recording all the variables to make it a reproducible model. We plan to do it several times a year. In the meantime, we've promoted the test at LGBT clubs in Modena and among Arcigay groups like youth, theater, and women... the more people we involve in taking the test, the better.
