Frankly, it's incomprehensible, after both the Court of Cassation and the Constitutional Court have given an unequivocal opinion, the objection to same-sex marriage expressed by Milan's mayor Giuliano Pisapia in the pages of "Pubblico.".
According to the mayor of Milan, who was clearly mistaken, "We need a constitutional amendment. The Constitution doesn't address male and female, but that's because it didn't address gay men.".
Following this line of reasoning, the Constitution did not even provide for divorce, and yet divorce was approved by ordinary law.
We don't want the "Pisapia objection," following the approval of a symbolic registry of civil unions in Milan, to be a way to soothe those Catholics who ferociously prevent a segment of the population from accessing full equality of rights. And they hinder their realization in relationships. We remind them, then, once again, that same-sex marriage is constitutional. And that it's time for Italy to fall in line with the great democracies on this issue.
