“"Gay Murder." Arcigay writes to "Il Messaggero" to stop the prejudice.”

Dear director of “Il Messaggero”,

We imagined that unlikely headlines like “gay murder” had now largely disappeared thanks to a press that was now more respectful towards both murder victims and the homosexual minority.
We must think again, at least according to the headline we read today, February 25, 2013, in the newspaper you direct on page 48. We ask you: have you ever seen a “heterosexual murder”?

The emphasis your newspaper places on the victim's sexual orientation is both pointless and fuels the prejudice inherent in the unequal treatment heterosexual and homosexual victims receive. And thank goodness we're at least a step beyond the 1960s crime news that reported "murders in squalid gay circles"...

Flavio Romani, president of Arcigay
