Peer-education program for a national network of LGBTI sexual health peer workers

Since 2017 Arcigay has had a program for the structuring of a network of health groups expert in peer education (peer education) in the context of sexual health and HIV and STI prevention (sexually transmitted infections).

The program consists of:

  • in building a homogeneous, common, and replicable peer-education model in the field of sexual health and HIV/STD risk reduction, which includes innovative materials and working methods in places such as nightclubs, saunas, public events, outdoor cruising, etc.
  • in a series of 5 local training sessions in 6 macro-territorial areas across the country, which will focus on both counseling techniques and peer-education techniques for implementing the model.
  • in making training and peer-education materials available to all Arcigay member associations, including through ARCIGAY's integrated FAD and laboratory training system (FISC program).

The aim of the programme is first and foremost to to stimulate a common and shared approach to the promotion of sexual health and to the prevention of HIV and other STDs among the member associations of ARCIGAY, and therefore increase the effective impact of prevention actions which the association already carries out in the territories.

The launch of the program in 2017 was made possible thanks to an unconditional contribution from ViiV-Healthcare, which funded the “Caring our community” project in 2016.[:en]
