Casoria's Torrente Institute for the Day Against Homophobia and Transphobia

Today May 19th, to the’Torrente Institute of Casoria the social campaign created by the boys and girls of the school together with was presented Antinoo Arcigay Naples. The initiative, which is part of the events for the May 17th, World Day against Homophobia, Biphobia, Lesbophobia and Transphobia, participated the Mayor of Casoria Raffaele Bene, the Councillor for Education of the Municipality of Casoria, Vincenzo Russo and the Councillor for Equal Opportunities, always for the Municipality of Casoria, Marianna Riccardi, in addition to the professor Paola Cinque, delegated by the Headmistress and to Antonello Sannino, President of Antinoo Arcigay Naples.

The spot Social tells the story of a possible everyday scene between a mother and son on WhatsApp, the potential misunderstandings between generations, and how the mother then demonstrates, through humor and culture, not only her closeness to her son, but also suggests the right solution to break the cycle of homophobic bullying he's experiencing at school. The video will be shared by the city, the school, and local LGBT+ associations. Along with the video, a print campaign will be launched in the city that recounts some of the video's jokes and links to a QR code to view the video itself. WATCH THE SPOT

The beautiful moment of Marco's coming out

Of great impact the Marco's coming out, a very young transgender boy, who finds the courage to tell his story and share his story of freedom, supported by his school, his teachers, his friends, and by our LGBT+ associations.
Marco, along with Gennaro, one of the school representatives who helped make the video and spoke shortly before Marco, were very emotional and managed to involve the entire school audience (and not only), conveying a powerful message of freedom and love, of sisterhood and brotherhood.

This project at the Torrente Institute in Casoria, unfortunately blocked for a long time by the Covid pandemic, says Antonello Sannino, president of Antinoo Arcigay Naples, It was already imagined in 2017, when two boys from Casoria, aged 18 and 21, were kicked out of their parents' home by their worried parents that Francesco, just 18, might somehow "transmit" homosexuality to his 12-year-old sister, as if homosexuality were an infectious disease. Today we tell the story of a community's redemption, a redemption that begins right at the school and with an administration on the front lines, with its Mayor, in defending the rights of LGBT+ people. Marco's moving coming out and Gennaro's beautiful words instantly restore to us all the strength and importance of our cultural work in schools and reward us for the enormous and daily effort we face every day to try, with tenacity and determination, to build a more just, more equitable, and happier society..
