EUROPEAN PARENTALITY CERTIFICATE, ARCIGAY: "THE EU IS FINALLY ENDING THE MADNESS OF THOSE WHO DISCRIMINATE AGAINST MINORS."’
Bologna, December 15, 2023 "It's a great relief to know that the European Union has finally decided to put an end to the trend of those who wage ideological battles at the expense of boys and girls," said Arcigay Secretary General Gabriele Piazzoni, speaking about the European Parliament's vote on the parental certificate. "The fact that a large majority of MEPs deemed it necessary and urgent to intervene in this matter speaks volumes about the gravity of the situation we are experiencing. It was Italy itself, after all, with the 33 birth certificates challenged by the Padua Prosecutor's Office, a story that made headlines around the world, that sounded the alarm and perhaps prompted the EU's intervention. Observers might think this intervention speaks volumes about the Meloni government's international reputation: clearly, we cannot assume that boys and girls are equally protected and guaranteed in all EU countries. Fortunately, democratic institutions are showing resistance to attempts at apartheid, treating them as relics of the past. We hope the measure will be completed quickly and successfully, thus definitively removing minors from the hands of those who seek to exploit them," concludes Piazzoni.
