REGIONAL LAW APPROVED IN PUGLIA AGAINST LESBIANS AND TRANSPHOBIA. ARCIGAY EXPRESSES SATISFACTION.
Bologna, July 10, 2024. – “A breath of fresh air in a very dark period for our country in terms of rights,” said Gabriele Piazzoni, secretary general of Arcigay, commenting on the approval of the regional anti-discrimination law, which took place yesterday in the Puglia legislative assembly. “This milestone,” Piazzoni continued, “reminds us that there are many institutional levels and that, if they choose, each can make a difference in creating a more just and safer Italy for all. In this regard, I would like to extend special thanks to Councilor Donato Metallo, the first signatory of the law, who never gave up and remained determined to bring this about.” "We are very satisfied," says Luciano Lopopolo, a Puglia member of Arcigay's national secretariat and former national president of the association. "The law approved in the Chamber is one that Arcigay, along with all the other Puglian associations, have fought for years. It has finally seen the light of day, providing our Region with an important tool to combat discrimination against LGBTQIA+ people," concludes Lopopolo.
