A choice of visibility and freedom: in Salerno there had not been any talk of homosexual culture since the 1990s, after the experience of the Arcigay Arcilesbica circle "I duecentocinquantamila".
March 5, 2003, marked a turning point: the creation of a Gay Culture Association dedicated to the Spanish poet Federico García Lorca surprised the city and its entire municipal administration. The goals were clear from the beginning: to serve as a point of reference for all gay, lesbian, transgender, and bisexual [GLBT] people. But over the course of the year, activists went further, engaging in serious and respectful dialogue with institutions, proposing the adoption of a registry for civil unions, seeking effective solutions with all political forces, and raising awareness of an issue that could be addressed calmly.
