""On the Gay Pride parade through the center of Turin, the deputy mayor Calgaro He says, 'It's obvious we're against it'? It sounds like we're hearing the words of the homophobic Polish president, the conservative Kaczynski, who called equal rights for gays and heterosexuals unthinkable. But Gay Pride marched through downtown Warsaw anyway. It's clear we'll also march through downtown Turin, much to the chagrin of fundamentalists everywhere.”.
The national president of Arcigay, Sergio Lo Giudice, intervenes for the first time on the issues related to the authorizations for the holding of the national Gay Pride which will be held in Turin next June 17th and it does so in protest against statements attributed to the deputy mayor of the Piedmontese capital, Marco Calgaro, who wants to divert the demonstration calling for the recognition of the civil rights of gays, lesbians, bisexuals, and transgender people away from the city center.
“The intolerant positions of the Polish president — explains Lo Giudice — These were the basis of the resolution against homophobia approved on January 18th by the European Parliament with a large cross-party majority. That resolution, among other things, refers to "recent worrying events in several Member States," including the ban on gay pride or equality marches.
The May 27 a delegation from Arcigay will participate, together with other European delegations, in the Moscow Gay Pride, previously unauthorized by the mayor of the metropolis, Yuri Luzhkov, to draw international public attention to this violation of civil rights. We are confident that the City of Turin, like its University, will remain out of similar embarrassing situations.”.
