Emilia Romagna in the streets!

Since the late 1970s, first through the initiative of the Collettivo Frocialista, then of the Circolo di cultura homosessuale XXVIII giugno, Bologna has been a central city for the birth of the homosexual and transsexual liberation movement in Italy.

Bologna, June 28, 1982

Today '‘Emilia-Romagna sees the presence of numerous lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender (LGBT) associations, engaged on different themes and fronts, and all united by the anniversary that June 28, 1969 It is, in the world, the day of our pride.

Starting this year, we're relaunching Pride as a moment of unity for all the region's LGBT associations, launching joint initiatives throughout the Emilia-Romagna region. We aim to be active participants in the life of our cities.

Visibility, freedom, secularism, self-determination

These are the watchwords of a community that for decades has espoused a policy and culture of dialogue, listening, and the valorization of diversity, a culture of critique of social control over bodies, of fighting discrimination, and of openness to a truly secular vision of society.

In recent months, the Italian LGBT movement, along with the women's movement, has once again and forcefully occupied the political scene and cultural discourse of this country. Significant moments of participation have been the demonstrations on January 14th by Tutti in Pacs and Usciamo dal Silenzio, in Rome and Milan, and those on February 11th by Facciamo Breccia and 194 parole per la Libertà, in Rome and Naples.

This regional Pride, which also reflects those paths, aims to strengthen the value and initiatives surrounding the Turin National Pride, and to act, while respecting the diversity that characterizes the various local groups, to affirm a practice of freedom and create spaces for dialogue and exchange with a society that we feel and want to be friendly and inclusive.
