Neapolitan associations for the defense of homosexual rights They report the very serious episode of violence that occurred in Naples on Friday 29 August in Piazza Bellini, reported by the newspaper Il Napoli in its September 1st edition.
The victim of the incident is a nineteen-year-old girl who was hanging out in the square with a group of friends and, simply for having a tender moment with her partner, found herself subjected to insults, sexual harassment, and injuries under the terrified eyes of those present, who remained helpless in the face of such violence.
The young woman did not file a complaint against her attacker, who had since been separated from her friends, because she was dissuaded by some of those present who probably had every interest in not having "unfinished business" with certain – unfortunately regular – acquaintances in the area.
Yet another attack in the square, widely recognized as a meeting place for the Neapolitan lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender community, is a clear sign of a homophobic crisis in Naples; there are no excuses for compromising rights and legality.
Arcigay Napoli invites all homosexual, bisexual and transsexual people who are subjected to homophobic violence to immediately report the incidents or to contact Neapolitan associations for any support.
The associations They ask Councillor Valeria Valente and Mayor Rosa Iervolino Russo to hold a meeting of the LGT Equal Opportunities Working Group. to discuss the serious incident that occurred in Piazza Bellini.
