On Friday 23 October 2009, in Piazza Indipendenza, starting at 5pm, there will be a sit-in to demonstrate against discrimination.. This event is promoted by the newly formed permanent anti-discrimination group "Treviso Libera," which includes:
– Queerquilia – Arcigay Arcilesbica Treviso and Belluno;
– UAAR Treviso;
– UbikLab;
– Treviso High School Students Network;
– ANPI Treviso;
– Shake LGBTE;
– Agedo;
– DonneinmovimentoTV;
– Treviso Workers' Defense Association;
– YaBasta Association;
– Another Treviso;
– Communist Refoundation Party.
The initiative was born in response to both the ongoing incidents of homophobic violence and the institutions' failure to promote laws protecting homosexual and transgender people. Given the unique nature of the Treviso area, the platform was expanded to denounce local institutions' intolerance regarding diversity based on gender, sexual orientation, ethnicity, social origin, religion, and personal beliefs.
