Gay List: Those Names That Make You Laugh

by Delia Vaccarello | all the author's articles Tweet Those names that make you laugh. You log onto the listaouting website, which this morning, Friday, September 23, was supposed to publish the list of closeted and blatantly homophobic gay politicians, and you feel a sense of its utter futility.

A list of names of alleged homophobes, because the list doesn't even bother to mention when this or that person allegedly took homophobic stances or made statements that undermine the dignity of gays and trans people. Even in this case, saying they're gay wouldn't have made sense, but at least the homophobia would have been highlighted and documented. It would have been open to attack. This is squalid.

Let's recall a good example of the political fight against homophobia: when Rocco Buttiglione was suggested for the nomination of Riccardo Gottardi as European Commissioner, Arcigay provided a dossier of all his homophobic statements, citing the when, how, and why. We published them first in our newspaper, on the "Liberi Tutti" page. Those quotes nailed Buttiglione. He was rejected for his positions on homosexuality.

The outing list is useless. And it records the ironic remark of one of the "names." "I had received news that my name would be instrumentally included in a defamatory list. For a moment, I feared they'd include me in the list of secret Inter supporters. All things considered, it's better this way," declared Massimo Corsaro, deputy vice president of the PDL in the Chamber of Deputies.

The proposal of the program "beyond the differences" with its "serious" list is not far off:

1. Goofy
2. Pluto
3. Donald Duck
4. Batman
5. Robin
6. Spiderman
7. Winnie the Pooh
8. Hello Kitty
9. Barbie
10. Cinderella
