Artist Gufò, Arcigay Pianeta Urano Verona, and Libreria Bocù present: Romeo's Balcony. A sculpture on display from September 22, 2012, to October 13, 2012, at Libreria Bocù (Vicolo Samaritana – Galleria Mazzini 1/B, 37121 Verona). Meetings and discussions will be held during this period (see program).
DESCRIPTION:
The theme addressed by the project and provocatively expressed by the work aims to stimulate reflection on the concept of LOVE, often misused and, above all, misunderstood. In today's society, where everything crumbles in the wake of unbridled consumption and the economic market, even love, the most intimate and true feeling a human being can express, is manipulated and misunderstood, or worse, relegated or even ghettoized. Only a certain type of love is permitted by the social pulpit: sugar-coated love.
Gufò's work aims to draw attention to this delicate theme by presenting the other half of the most famous love: that between Romeo and Juliet. Until now, only the love symbolized by Juliet has been publicized, relegating the other half, represented by Romeo, to the sidelines. The Balcony encompasses Romeo's masculine vigor and, by standing as an alternative and complement, just a few meters from the famous sculpture, shines a light on the other half of uncelebrated love. Verona thus compensates for nearly a century of sentimental injustice and opens itself to welcome attention, debate, and reflection on true love in all its forms without limitations. The project allows the legendary couple to be reunited just a few days before Juliet's birthday, scheduled for September 16th. Out of extreme modesty towards a certain resounding criticism, the visit of the famous art critic Vittorio Sgarbi will not be welcomed, and a letter of explanation will be dedicated to him.
