Arcigay and Agedo wrote to "La Repubblica": "It's a shame that the 'gay lobby' was splashed across the front page."

Dear Director,

For two days, your newspaper has been claiming that an alleged "gay lobby" forced the Holy Father to resign and is actively steering the conclave by influencing the cardinals' vote.

Your front-page headline today, February 22, "Gay Lobby in the Curia, the Vatican in Shock" refers us to two inside pages with articles by Ansaldo and Zampaglione (as well as an editorial by Tarquini) that discuss exclusively incidents of pedophilia among the clergy, stories about abused children, bishops who cover up, and cardinals who remain reticent in court.

We want to hope that the distinction between homosexuality and pedophilia Let it be absolutely clear to you: gay love and affection have nothing to do with child sexual abuse, an intolerable phenomenon that has serious criminal as well as psychiatric implications.
We found it incredibly the comparison is offensive today between front-page headlines and internal articles, a juxtaposition that generates confusion and violently harms gay people, as if there was any need in this country.

The game of artfully confusing homosexuality and pedophilia was very popular among the clergy until a few years ago, but since the storm of pedophile scandals hit the church, they've stopped. However, certain politicians accustomed to fishing in troubled waters and certain dirty newspapers that aren't even worth mentioning haven't stopped.

We didn't expect anything like this from Repubblica.

We want to hope that he will find a way to correct and remedy it.

Best regards,

Flavio Romani, president of Arcigay

Rita de Santis, president of Agedo
