PORDENONE – In Pordenone, the Arcigay school project, conceived by the University of Trieste's Faculty of Psychology, has failed. It involved 1,300 students in the region, but only about twenty in this area. The project, implemented in a single class, could not be repeated the following year due to a parent revolt. "We are lagging behind," declared Arcigay president Giacomo Deperu. "We ask the future regional president to support projects like these, because homophobia is violence against minors, since so many gay and lesbian teenagers suffer and are still thrown out of their homes, insulted, or beaten.".
The breakthrough for the acceptance of rights will require a cultural challenge, advocated by candidate Debora Serracchiani, invited by Arcigay to the Library last night for a discussion. "I prefer to forgo €25,000 of the unaccountable reserve fund of the Regional President," the candidate stated, "in order to establish a day against homophobia on May 17." Deperu urged that institutions, just as they address Holocaust Remembrance Day, should also address homophobia. Serracchiani herself supported the establishment of a permanent anti-homophobia committee in larger municipalities, bringing together institutions and associations that fight for the rights of gays, lesbians, and transgender people. Debora Serracchiani, who supports gay marriage, stated that the Region, which blocked a first-home grant for a same-sex couple from Pordenone, having appealed to the Regional Administrative Court, should act self-regulatoryly and apply the current law, revoking an illegitimate and unjust measure.
