Friday 14th October at 6pm will be held at the Protego Centre, in Arci Tavola Tonda (Cantieri Culturali alla Zisa) a meeting with Adriana Castellucci, director and playwright, to discuss the show “Olympe de Gouges I am my work“, which will be staged at Arci Fontarò Theater the next day, October 15th.
Gifted with a strong personality and lively intelligence, a woman of undoubted and recognized charm, Olympe de Gouges was one of the main protagonists of the political scene at the time of the French Revolution, a prominent figure in the front of women's demands.
A prolific writer of novels, plays, articles, manifestos, political writings, and legislative proposals, she is best known for her 1791 “Declaration of the Rights of Woman and the Female Citizen,” in which, drawing on the homonymous Declaration for Men, she demanded absolute equality of rights between men and women.
We'll talk together about one of the first feminists in history who dedicated her entire life to supporting freedom of expression, gender equality, and the introduction of divorce.
