ARCIGAY SALERNO PRESENTS THE COMMERCIAL "MEMORY IS RESISTANCE. VISIBILITY IS LIFE" FOR TDOR 2025

On the occasion of the Trans Day of Remembrance, Arcigay Salerno “Marcella Di Folco” launches the awareness campaign “Memory is resistance. Visibility is life.”, through the commercial starring Claudio Soriente, a trans man from Nocera Inferiore and an LGBTQIA+ member of the Salerno community. The commercial opens with the first light of dawn on the Salerno seafront, a symbol of rebirth, and alternates evocative images with Claudio's personal story, which states: “My body is not a mistake, and today I'm no longer afraid of being looked at. I chose life every time I said my name.”

“"With this video," says Emanuele Avagliano, President of the Arcigay Salerno Provincial Committee, "we want to remember those who are no longer with us and support those who continue to live, resist, and be seen. TDOR is a reminder, but also a collective responsibility: we need an effective law against homolesbobitransphobia and a cultural shift that begins in educational institutions and institutions. The launch of the ad comes in a year marked by a new toll of violence: 281 trans people killed worldwide, according to the Trans Murder Monitoring 2025 Report. This number captures only part of the phenomenon, because, as the report highlights, violence against trans people remains profoundly underestimated, often made invisible by misgendering in the media and institutional gaps. The document also denounces a disturbing trend: the growing targeting of trans activists and community leaders, targeted precisely because they are visible, committed, and on the front lines of defending rights. The violence described in the report is not only physical: it is part of a structural transphobia that runs through Healthcare, education, work, and welfare. From the pathologization of healthcare pathways, to discrimination in the workplace, to the school dropout rates of many young trans people, to the hate speech that poisons public and political debate, fueling fear and marginalization.

“"We ask," Avagliano continues, "the media, institutions, and civil society to give visibility to this day and the reality of trans people. The press has a fundamental role in countering stereotypes and affirming a culture of respect and equality. Reposting and sharing this video means making a concrete contribution to building a safer and more just community.".

Telling these stories is a noble act of civil and social responsibility. .
