From Vittorio Veneto, in the province of Treviso, to Catania: Famiglie Arcobaleno, the Italian Association of Homosexual Parents, returns to twelve Italian squares and parks to celebrate the 2024 Family Festival with supporters, allies, parents, and children looking for new friendships. As per tradition, the festival is open to all types of families.
“Ten years after the first edition in Florence in 2014 – explains the president Alessia Crocini – we are still here to celebrate, but above all to tell our stories and claim rights for our daughters and sons: some are now adults and still haven't seen a law that recognizes them as children of two mothers or two fathers.”.
“Families to the rescue – continues Crocini – is the slogan chosen for this Family Day because for more than twenty years, the legislative vacuum has forced us into a constant race to reclaim those rights that are being denied us. This government has succeeded in erasing even the few gains achieved in municipalities, persecuting married mothers like in Padua, and is preparing to approve a law that would make surrogacy a universal crime. And that will weigh like a millstone on the lives of children and young people who were born thanks to those paths.
“"Families to the Rescue" because they are the target of an ideological government and an embittered, populist policy. A slogan that speaks of rights to be won, of battles to be fought, of the desire to fight back. It speaks of us, today, and of the Italy that doesn't yet exist but that we want to build.
Family Day, which is celebrated in Italy in April-May as part of the International Families Equality Day, will be celebrated in Campania on May 5th in the municipal villa of Torre del Greco from 10:00 to 14:00 With the patronage of the Mayor, the municipal administration, the Campania Region and with the support of the Campania Rainbow Coordination and several local LGBTQIA+ associations.
