Day Against HomoLesboBiTransphobia: No circular from the Ministry to schools promoting counteractions

Neapolitan LGBT+ associations note the government's worrying absence on the issue: a deafening silence especially if contextualized in the context of the repressive and persecutory policies promoted by the majority

On the occasion of the International Day Against Homophobia, Transphobia, Lesbophobia and Biphobia, a day recognized by the European Union and the United Nations, established by the resolution of the European Parliament of 26/04/07, which has been celebrated since 2004 on May 17th of each year, LGBT+ associations, Arcigay Antinoo Naples, ALFI Le Maree Napoli And Transsexual Association Naples They note with concern and dismay the absolute absence of our Government, an absence which, in addition to offending the values of our Constitution, also violates the directives and recommendations of the European Union.

Indeed, every year since 2007, following the aforementioned European Parliament resolution, the Ministry of Education has sent a circular urging schools—of all levels—to promote educational and training initiatives to combat discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity.

In alarming discontinuity with what happened previously and in line with the policy of the current Government, The Minister of Education and Merit has not sent any circular to schools this year, evidently believing – both the Minister and the Government as a whole – that rights and dignity do not belong to all citizens, thus expressing a disturbing desire for exclusion that could endorse or foment discrimination and stigma against gay, lesbian, transgender, bisexual, and intersex people.

This is a "deafening" silence, especially when contextualized within the context of the repressive and persecutory policies promoted by the governing majority, both socially and culturally.

We expect our outrage and concern to be shared by citizens, associations, movements, and parties who want to guarantee the full and equal exercise of civil rights by LGBTQIA* people.
