Following the fruitful discussion which took place on Monday 15th January with the highest levels of the Naples Central Police Headquarters regarding the dramatic episode of violence and rape that involved, during the night between Thursday 11th and Friday 12th January, two transgender tourists in an apartment in the Spanish Quarter, Even the mayor of the city, Gaetano Manfredi, wanted to meet the girls who were victims of the gang.
Thus, the two young women, accompanied by Antonello Sannino And Daniela Lourdes Falanga For Antinoo Arcigay Naples and from Claudia Cavallo, representing the’Trans Naples Association (ATN), were received today, Tuesday 16 January, by the’Councilor for Equal Opportunities, Emanuela Ferrante and by Mayor Gaetano Manfredi.
The latter, after expressing his closeness and solidarity to the girls, and apologizing on behalf of the City of Naples for the ignominious episode that took their lives, also announced that the City of Naples will join the civil action in any trial against the perpetrators of the attack, a position that will also be exercised by Antinoo Arcigay Napoli.
The girls, who confirmed that they felt the support of not only associations and institutions, but also that of the neighborhood residents, despite the traumatic experience, stated that a true apology will only be fully received when timely and due justice is done for what happened.
It is important to note that, thanks to the courage of the two girls and the timely intervention of the police, a twenty-eight-year-old member of the gang is currently in custody, while the other four who allegedly took part in the attack have already been identified and are known to law enforcement officials.
Finally, the girls, waiting to return from this very sad holiday, were hosted in the House of Cultures and Welcome for LGBTQI+ People in Naples, a project promoted by the Municipality of Naples and managed by local LGBT associations and by Antinoo Arcigay Napoli.
