NAPLES Antinoo Arcigay Napoli expresses its full and unconditional solidarity with the Iranian people, protagonists of a historic uprising that is shaking the foundations of the Ayatollahs' regime. For weeks, the world has witnessed the courage of those who brave bullets to assert their basic right to life and self-determination.
A theocracy based on gender oppression and terrorism
The ongoing uprising is not just a political protest, but a insurrection of the bodies. Khamenei's regime has built its power on the obsessive control of women and the erasure of LGBTQIA+ people. We are faced with a state structure that uses the gender violence, patriarchy and state homotransphobia as fundamental pillars of a terrorist system.
For the regime, the exposed female body and the very existence of an LGBTQIA+ person represent existential threats, as they embody the freedom that theocracy denies. The violence unleashed in the streets is the same that, for decades, has targeted anyone who refuses to bow to the patriarchal, chauvinistic, and binary model imposed by force of arms and executions.
Darkness as a terrorist weapon
We strongly denounce the regime's strategy blackout telephone and internet networks. This blackout isn't just censorship: it's a military tactic to torture, rape, and kill in silence, banking on the international community's indifference.
“Every second of digital darkness in Iran is a space in which the regime tries to erase traces of humanity. But the cry ‘'Woman, Life, Liberty'’ has now overcome every barrier, becoming a universal chorus for freedom and peace.”
Antinoo Arcigay Napoli's appeal
As an association that fights for civil rights, we cannot stand by and watch while an entire population is suffocated by a terrorist and obscurantist regime.
We support the resistance of Iranian women, the vanguard of this revolution, and of LGBTQIA+ people in Iran who risk the death penalty simply for being who they are.
We ask a clear diplomatic and political isolation towards a government that shoots its own citizens and uses systematic rape as an instrument of torture in prisons.
We urge Neapolitan and Campanian civil society must not let their guard down: the freedom of Iranians is our freedom.
Iran must return to its people. The beauty of resistance, of those who light a cigarette in front of the executioner or those who dance in the streets defying the morality police, is proof that no regime, even the most violent, can extinguish the desire for freedom.
Let's not leave Iranian women alone, let's not leave the Iranian people alone. Now it's our turn.
