Young people are not only potential victims or bystanders of bullying, but also the first and most formidable line of defense. This shift in perspective is the foundation of the prevention of bullying and discrimination. The spotlight was on the "1Ariosto" Comprehensive School in Arzano, where the symposium took place on February 25th. “Beyond the Screen: Understanding, Preventing, and Treating Youth Discomfort”, carried out within the activities foreseen by the AS.SO project. The meeting marked an important milestone for the school, which, as the leading school in the region in combating bullying and cyberbullying, is developing an ambitious unified protocol with other schools in the network to standardize emergency response and support procedures.
Rules written by boys and girls, not imposed from above
The conference marked the culmination of extensive and meticulous planning. At Ariosto, the new internal regulations are tailor-made by the students themselves: a grassroots tool that ensures the rules of coexistence and mutual respect are internalized and deeply shared, rather than imposed from above.
The fight against homophobic and transphobic bullying and discrimination
During the meeting, moderated by Professor Clara Cesario (school contact for bullying), for our association, Antinoo Arcigay Napoli, intervened Antonello Sannino.
Sannino reiterated the absolute urgency of eradicating stigma and deconstructing prejudices right from school.“Words carry weight, and insults based on sexual orientation or gender identity leave deep scars on the self-esteem of boys and girls.“Schools have a duty to transform themselves into true “safe zones,” a bastion of welcome where diversity is valued and where no form of discrimination, isolation, or ridicule should be tolerated.
The institutional network for prevention
The Headmistress, the Headmistress, welcomed the guests and opened the proceedings. Dr. Sabrina Di Lauro, who then left the floor to a high-profile institutional panel.’Attorney Annunziata Asseni It outlined the legal framework, clarifying responsibilities (including parental ones) and the regulatory instruments for the protection of minors. The call for "shared educational responsibility" launched by the Captain Valentina Bianchin, Commander of the Casoria Carabinieri Company, who recalled the active role of the force in policing the territory, highlighting the role of institutions and law enforcement in preventing and combating risky behavior. Completing the picture was the intervention of the Dr. Patrizia Palumbo, President of the Anti-Violence Centre “Dream Team Scampia”, who reiterated the centrality of local support networks, and the clear analysis of the psychologist Raffaele D'Onofrio on the emotional and relational complications of adolescence.
A new logo against bullying
Proof that the seed of awareness is already bearing fruit was the brilliant participation of a delegation of eighth-grade students, who enlivened the debate with highly informed questions and reflections. The day concluded with a creative outpouring of recognition, with the award ceremony for the winning student in the contest for the school's new official logo, dedicated to combating bullying.
