A mother, a transgender daughter, lives... one book. The story of how love and strength overcome any fear.
Today, Saturday, January 14th, 4:00 PM The Pontassieve Municipal Library will host a presentation of the book "Io sono Io" (I Am I) by and with Cinzia Messina. This book speaks of parenthood, discovery, affirmation, and freedom. Together with Cinzia, we will explore what it means to discover, embrace, and smile together at the unique things that life offers us.
“"I Am I" can neither be called a novel nor an essay. Perhaps we could call it an adventure book, although it has nothing to do with prairies and forests, enchanted castles, or journeys into infinity. It tells a real and very human adventure, and while the protagonist is a heroine, she is nevertheless a real person, made of flesh, fragility, and emotion, whose battlefield is not the infinite horizon of the imagination but life itself, both in its everyday reality and in its absolute meanings. The heroine is called Greta and is a very young transgender girl whose story is told by Cinzia, her mother, in minute reconstructions of days and feelings, emotions, and plans. "I Am I" is therefore, at once, a testimony and a "travel diary," rich in the bittersweet flavor we call life, but without ever giving in to pity, consolation, or self-satisfaction: it recounts the facts, presenting them.
The project is part of the initiatives of Trans Space*, a service that aims to create a safe environment where everyone can be themselves, socialize, meet or simply discuss gender issues. It will be possible to receive all the information on the path of gender transition and affirmation, help in carrying it forward and support at every stage, with the guarantee of complete anonymity. Trans* Space is also open to friends and families. If necessary, just write to [email protected] or whatsapp: +393534206407
The presentation is organized with the support of Rete Ready funds allocated by the Tuscany Region for the Municipality of Pontassieve.
