March 31st is the Transgender Day of Visibility – TDoV, the international day dedicated to the visibility of trans and non-binary people.
Celebrated annually, the TDoV was created with the aim of highlighting the lives, experiences, and contributions of transgender and non-binary people, while also combating discrimination, stereotypes, and social invisibility. It is a crucial moment to raise public awareness of the difficulties many face daily, but also to recognize progress and strengthen commitment to a more equal society.
On this occasion Arcigay Viterbo is pleased to announce the opening of the Transgender Self-Help Group* & Enby – Arcigay Viterbo, promoted as part of the Sportello Arcobaleno (Rainbow Sports Center). The Group will meet every second Friday of the month from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM.
The initiative stems from the need to offer a place for sharing and support in a context that, unfortunately, is still marked by difficulties in social inclusion, discrimination, and a lack of awareness of this reality. Transgender and non-binary people are, in fact, subject to numerous additional obstacles in their daily lives, including access to healthcare and the bureaucratic and medical procedures related to gender affirmation.
The AMA Group aims to address these needs by offering a safe and welcoming space in which to develop social skills and share experiences, preventing risks to one's physical and mental health. Through the association's support, the group also promotes the spread of an inclusive culture, combating transphobia and social isolation.
Among the main objectives is also to facilitate access to structured and verified information on psychological, bureaucratic, medical, and civil matters, as well as to create a direct link with professionals specializing in psychology, legal assistance, endocrinology, and more. The group was established with a focus on active and concrete participation, based on supportive, empathetic, and inclusive approaches. The goal is to create a non-judgmental space where every personal experience can be valued and showcased, fostering cohesion and mutual support among participants. Meetings will include activities for sharing and dialogue, experiential moments, guided group activities, discussions on current issues and the history of trans and non-binary communities, as well as meetings with experts in the field.
The first appointment of the Trans* & Enby Group – Arcigay Viterbo it is set for Friday, April 10, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM, at the office in Via Vicenza 13.
