“PORTO FOR THE PEOPLE – FREE TO BE”:

A CONFERENCE IN PORTO RECANATI FOR THE RIGHTS AND INCLUSION OF ALL

Porto Recanati, May 14, 2025 – On the occasion of the International Day Against Homophobia, Transphobia and Biphobia (IDAHOBIT), celebrated annually on May 17, the Municipality of Porto Recanati renews its commitment to inclusion and the defense of civil rights.

The conference is approaching “Porto for the People – Free to Be: Rights, Identity, Future”, scheduled Sunday, May 18th at 5pm at the "A. Moroni" Municipal Art Gallery. An event open to the public, Designed as a moment of discussion and reflection on increasingly pressing issues, in a national and international context where the rights of LGBTQIA+ people are often called into question.

The meeting will open with institutional greetings from the Mayor of Porto Recanati, Andrea Michelini, followed by a short message from Matteo Marchegiani of Arcigay “Comunitas” Ancona.

The event will also feature the participation of authoritative voices at the national level. Speakers will include: Natasha Maesi, national president of Arcigay, an activist who has been committed to the protection of the LGBTQIA+ community for years. She will be joined by Fabrizio Quattrini, psychologist, psychotherapist, and sexologist, president of the Italian Institute of Scientific Sexology in Rome, and one of Italy's leading experts in sexual health. He will also participate. Marilena Grassadonia, a long-time activist for LGBTQIA+ rights and currently the national "Rights and Freedoms" coordinator for the Italian Left. Finally, she will bring her contribution Fatou Sall, Equal Opportunities Councilor for the Municipality of Porto Recanati, who has always been at the forefront of issues of inclusion and social justice. The meeting will be moderated by the duo Charmen.

Fatou Sall herself, on the eve of the conference, declared:

“I have always been committed to a society where no one is left behind. Defending the rights of the LGBTQIA+ community means defending the rights of everyone: men, women, young people, the elderly, people with disabilities, and foreign citizens. Equal opportunities must be guaranteed across the board, without distinction, because only in this way can we build a truly inclusive, strong, and cohesive community.”

The conference aims to be more than just a celebratory event: it will be a space for listening and participation, to clearly reiterate that the freedom to be oneself is an inalienable and non-negotiable right.
