NAPLES PRIDE

July 5, 2025

REGULATION

Naples hosted the first Pride parade in southern Italy in 1996 (the third in Italy after Rome in 1994 and Bologna in 1995). The Neapolitan capital hosted its second national Pride parade in 2010, following the one in 1996. Naples launched Onda Pride in 2013, and the Mediterranean Pride of Naples (MPoN) in 2014. This led to the signing of the Marseille Charter in 2017, a charter signed with the Pride parades of Marseille, Beirut, Algiers, Tunis, and Pompeii for the free circulation of rights, ideas, and people. Since 2018, with the historic Pride in Pompeii, Pride events have also reached the metropolitan area of Naples, followed by Sorrento 2019, Torre Annunziata 2022, Scafati 2023 (in the province of Salerno) and Torre del Greco 2024. In 2016, Naples Pride entered the former NATO of Bagnoli, leaving the city center and it was the first demonstration to enter a place occupied for decades by one of the largest military bases in the Mediterranean, the Pride found a historic alliance with the former workers of the Italsider of Bagnoli. After a static edition in 2006, since 2009, Naples Pride has been held annually with a parade. Naples Pride is the only pride event in Europe not to stop even during the pandemic, with historic events in 2020 and 2021. Naples Pride will be held in July 2025, its 19th edition in the city (20th if you include the winter "Svegliatitalia" parade). Everyone is free to participate in Naples Pride. Since 2023, Naples Pride has been preceded by a week of cultural, artistic, and recreational events, including Pride Park, this year in its third year.
