For the first time in its history, Trapani hosted an event that until a few years ago seemed impossible: its first Pride parade.
An event charged with meaning, a collective embrace, a hymn to freedom, love, and the visibility of all identities.
Young and old, families with children, activists, and ordinary citizens gathered yesterday afternoon in a Trapani that was more colorful than ever.

It wasn't just the colors of the rainbow that paraded, but also stories, dreams, wounds, and hopes. The same ones that, for too long, remained hidden in the forced silences of those who had to fight to be themselves.

The godmother of the event also led the parade, the actress Ester Pantano.

“"It's not just a celebration, it's a liberation," one of the participants told us with tears in his eyes, shaking his companion's hand after years of invisibility. The city responded warmly, with applause, chants, and spontaneous hugs.

In addition to Mayor Giacomo Tranchida and City Councilor Emanuele Barbara, the event was also attended by Erice's mayor, Daniela Toscano, along with Councilors Rossella Cosentino and Carmela Daidone, Ernesto Raccagna, Vice President of the Trapani Free Municipal Consortium, and regional deputies Dario Safina and Cristina Ciminnisi.

The event organized by Shoruq Arcigay With the support of local sponsors, the free patronage of the Municipality of Trapani and the paid patronage of the Municipality of Paceco, it started in the afternoon from Piazza Martiri d'Ungheria, where hundreds of participants gathered, and then walked along Via GB Fardella to the stage set up in Piazza Vittorio Emanuele.

Here, moments of entertainment alternated with speeches, all sharing a clear message: Trapani is no longer willing to leave anyone behind. An event not only for the LGBTQIA+ community, but for the entire citizenry.
The Trapani Pride parade comes at a historic moment when talking about rights, acceptance, and inclusion is more urgent than ever, in a South that is too often portrayed solely through stereotypes. Trapani has debunked this cliché, choosing the path of dignity and respect. With courage and determination, despite some dissent expressed on social media with anger and insults.
For those who marched, for those who applauded, for those who were moved, this Pride will not be just a memory: it will be a root planted in the soil of collective awareness. A beginning. A step forward.
