ARCIGAY PRESENTS ITS 2023 SOCIAL REPORT: A BOOM IN REQUESTS FOR HELP FROM DISADVANTAGED PEOPLE

Last year, 618 people in difficulty turned to the association, compared to 444 in 2022.

Bologna, November 21, 2024 – During 2023, they turned to Arcigay 618 people in disadvantaged conditions, in serious economic difficulty. In 2022 there were 444. Similarly, Arcigay accompanied in 2023 427 legal proceedings, 141 of which related to workplace discrimination. In 2022, there were 251 proceedings in total. These are some of the numbers highlighted in Arcigay's 2023 Social Report, published on the association's website. The document, produced in collaboration with Vision2050, a spin-off of the University of Turin's Department of Management, offers a detailed look at all the activities and services provided over the past year through its 73 local offices throughout Italy.

“A necessary operation of transparency – explains the Secretary General Gabriele Piazzoni – but also an opportunity to take a snapshot of the needs emerging within our community over the past 12 months, which are driving LGBTQIA+ people to seek help from Arcigay. In this sense, the poverty alarm emerging from this influx of requests is striking, echoing a trend already reported in recent days by other organizations.

Among the key figures in Arcigay's 2023 Social Report:

  • 1,535 users assisted for health-related problems

  • 8,587 HIV tests performed during the year

  • 345 workshops with students completed, and 290 meetings with students

  • 427 legal cases followed, including 141 cases of discrimination at work

  • 769 people reached with psychological support

  • 618 requests for help from people in marginalized or disadvantaged conditions

  • 601 requests for help from migrants, 284 asylum procedures accompanied

  • 26,179 contacts on help lines activated in 35 local offices.

  • 43 companies supported in diversity management.

The value generated by the association during the year, according to the estimates of the experts of Vision2050, amounts to 1,282,834.56 euros. “"This is tangible evidence," Piazzoni comments, "of the commitment and effectiveness of the activities carried out, which make Arcigay an essential point of reference for the LGBTQIA+ community in Italy.".
