Bologna Pride: luxuria in the film library and the jurists in Via Zamboni

Bologna, May 3, 2012 – The Bologna Pride 2012, the national demonstration of the LGBT (lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender) community, is intensifying. It will conclude with the procession on June 9 from the Porta Saragozza keep to Piazza Maggiore.

Three events are scheduled for Friday, May 4th. At 4:30 PM, in the Sala Feste di Giurisprudenza (Via Zamboni 22), lawyers, magistrates, and jurists will discuss the legal implications of families with same-sex parents. Specifically, they will explore how, even in the absence of Italian legislation, European legislation already provides a minimum level of protection for same-sex couples. (Editorial information: Michele Giarratano, cell. 320 3591567).

Friday also marks the opening of "Divergenti," the international transgender film festival, which will also feature Vladimir Luxuria as both host and patron (www.mit-italia.it/divergenti/programma.htm). The event is scheduled for 7 p.m. in the Lumière courtyard (via Azzo Gardino 65) for a "fabulous" toast with a DJ set, dance performances, and an exhibition dedicated to the 30th anniversary of the gender reassignment law. After greetings from Porpora Marcasciano, president of the Transsexual Identity Movement, and Gian Luca Farinelli, director of the Bologna Film Archive, the first screenings, featuring documentaries and fiction from around the world, will continue for three days (press office: Elisa Coco, tel. 051 6493772, cell. 338 5864109, [email protected]).

The late-night party will take place at the Estragon Club (via Stalingrado 83, starting at 10:30 PM) with a special final evening of the Tour Party Pride, celebrating the birthday of the beloved Poppen DJs. The €5 entrance fee will go entirely to Bologna Pride 2012.

On Saturday, May 5th, the Cassero (via Don Minzoni 18, 10:30 p.m.) will host an original preview of Miss Les.bò 2012, an unconventional modeling show traditionally held in November. Crews and groups promoting lesbian culture in the city will be working to develop and represent, through art, imagination, and sensitivity, their idea of "Pride," the evening's theme. The spotlight will be on the protagonists of past events, along with performances and plenty of music (admission €10, including a drink, with Arcigay/Arcilesbica membership card; info for editors: Serena Donà, cell. 348 8942848).

On Tuesday, May 8th, Piazza Verdi will be "Pride Square." Starting at 10:00 a.m., young Bologna Pride volunteers, gathered in the PeopAll group, and Alma Mater students will meet in the heart of the university campus for activities open to all.
