Bologna, January 15, 2016 – “We listened carefully this morning to the Ministry of Education's response to the interpellation addressed to it by the Honorable Bordo, Scotto, and Marcon, and we can only express a note of disappointment,” declared Gabriele Piazzoni, national secretary of Arcigay. She continues: "Of course, we acknowledge the work the Ministry is doing to implement the goals of educating about diversity expressed in the 'good school' decree, but we fear that the results of the far-right's misleading campaign are being underestimated. This campaign is waving the spectre of gender ideology to prevent the implementation of anti-bullying strategies in schools, even going so far, as in the case of Veneto, as to engage public institutions such as the Region in this regard. The law establishes the autonomy of schools in defining their own curriculum, but that autonomy, for it to be a value and not a disvalue, must be protected. Simply defining it is not enough, especially in the face of explicit threats such as those expressed in the motions passed in various regional councils. We therefore hope that the Ministry of Education, Universities and Research will take all necessary measures to protect schools from the exploitation of those who would turn them into political trenches, providing students not with a 'good school' but with the worst possible." concludes Piazzoni.
