An investigation into "L'Espresso," an example of good journalism.

Today in "L'Espresso" we read a lengthy investigation by Tommaso Cerno on homosexuality, titled "How Normal Is My Gay Life?" The piece and its accompanying photographs represent a rare example of good journalism and reveal the reality of gay, lesbian, and transgender people for what it is.

Our daily lives, which we too rarely read about in the Italian press, tell the story of a country that confronts us every day and of a political universe that, by ignoring us, demonstrates its own inadequacy. Our daily lives will march in Rome for Europride on June 11th to tell precisely this reality. It will be a "gentle revolution," an act of no confidence in a Parliament and a Government that no longer represent the real country.

Tommaso Cerno's investigation demonstrates that we can discuss homosexuality without the stereotypes and victimization that much of the Italian press insists on when describing our reality. This news is the discovery of an everyday reality that we finally see fully explained.

We are grateful to the weekly magazine for this rare example of good journalism and hope that other media outlets, in reporting on and addressing the reality of lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender people, can follow the excellent example set today by “l'Espresso.”.
