HOMOTRANSPHOBIA: ARCIGAY rallies in the streets for approval of the bill: "WE STRONGLY REJECT ANY ATTEMPT TO WEAKEN THE LAW."“

Bologna, May 15, 2021 – “Today begins the mobilization that will animate over 50 Italian cities from north to south over the next three days: thousands of people will forcefully demand that the law against homotransphobia, misogyny, and ableism be approved by the Senate without amendments and without wasting any more time,” said Gabriele Piazzoni, general secretary of Arcigay. He continues: "Since 1996, our country has been trying to pass a law against discriminatory violence related to homotransphobia. Here we are in 2021, and politicians are still trying to postpone it indefinitely under the pretext of deepening their understanding, clarifying, and mediating positions. The point is, however, that you can't write a law against homophobia by mediating with homophobes, nor a law protecting trans people by those who don't even want to recognize them as citizens with the same rights as everyone else. Many Italian cities will today cry out: enough is enough to this bloodbath on people's backs. We strongly reject attempts to weaken the bill: we firmly say this, not a step back from the bill already approved by the Chamber of Deputies, because that bill is already the least our country can do to finally join the ranks of other Western European countries that have passed similar laws for many years now," he concludes. Gabriele Piazzoni will participate in the demonstration scheduled for today in Rome, starting at 4:00 PM in Piazza del Popolo.
