Bologna, July 27, 2024 – Sor not Noto and Reggio Calabria the two cities that are involved in the Onda Pride parades today, the large demonstration in support of LGBTQI+ rights organized by Arcigay and other local and national associations. The Val di Noto Pride rally is scheduled for 7:00 PM in Piazza Colonia, while the Reggio Calabria Pride, which is celebrating its tenth anniversary this year, will gather at 5:00 PM in the Villa Comunale.
“"This time, along with the struggle and protest, we have reason to celebrate," said Gabriele Piazzoni, general secretary of Arcigay. He continued: "In recent days, the Constitutional Court has finally called into question the requirement for a court ruling before affirmative surgery for trans people. Finally, a fundamental principle has begun to be established in this country: a judge is not required to authorize surgery, for trans people as for anyone else. It is a health issue that only the person concerned and the doctors they have chosen to consult should be able to express their opinion on. It is a matter of basic equality, which, as almost always happens in Italy, is affirmed by a High Court and not by Parliament: once again, in short, it is the judiciary that patches up political injustices. For trans people, this ruling is a historic event, and we proudly celebrate it today," Piazzoni concluded.
