PRIDE WAVE, SEVEN PROTESTS TODAY: BARI, CAGLIARI, DOLO, MILAN, NAPLES, RAGUSA, TREVISO. PIAZZONI (ARCIGAY): "LET'S FILL THE STREETS AGAINST THE VEHEMINARY LAWS OF THE DICTATORSHIP."“

Bologna, June 29, 2024 – For the last weekend of June, Pride Month, seven cities will be hosting Onda Pride marches today, the large-scale demonstration in support of LGBTQ+ rights organized by Arcigay and other local and national associations. The march will begin in Bari at 3:00 PM in Piazza Umberto I, in Cagliari with the Sardegna Pride march departing at 5:00 PM from Parco della Musica, in Dolo with the Riviera Pride march, gathering at 5:00 PM in Piazza Cantiere, in Milan with a 3:00 PM rally on Via Vittorio Pisani, in Naples where the march departs at 4:00 PM from Piazza del Municipio, in Ragusa with a 5:30 PM rally on the Andrea Doria seafront, and in Treviso with a 5:00 PM rally from the Palla di Ferro.
“"In the disturbing climate of a Prime Minister who stirs up coup-plotting phantoms behind the exercise of sacrosanct freedom of information, our mobilization continues and offers no concessions," declared Gabriele Piazzoni, general secretary of Arcigay. He continues: "The Prime Minister, instead of talking to us about the work of journalists, must explain to us why, within her party, fascism is being openly and clearly praised. And consistent, I would add, with the persecutory policies against women, foreigners, and LGBTQI+ people that Giorgia Meloni has been implementing for months. This, indeed, is true, just like in regimes. So, if two pieces of evidence make a case, we have now collected dozens of pieces of evidence. The latest just this morning: in the text of the security decree being debated in Parliament, we find a prison sentence for anyone who blocks traffic on a road for a non-violent demonstration. Just like in dictatorships. For us, it is now clear: this government and this majority are moving dangerously outside the constitutional framework. They are the threat to democracy, not those who criticize them. We are ready to take to the streets against this political culture and these 'dictatorship laws,' on an unforgettable day of pride and protest," concludes Piazzoni.
