PRIDE WAVE: TWO PROCEEDINGS TODAY, CALTAGIRONE AND MESSINA. PIAZZONI (ARCIGAY): "DAYS OF ANGER: TOO MUCH VIOLENCE, THE GOVERNMENT MUST ACCEPT ITS RESPONSIBILITY."“
Bologna, July 20, 2024 Two marches today will follow in the footsteps of Onda Pride, the large-scale demonstration in support of LGBTQ+ rights organized by Arcigay and other local and national associations. Both will meet in Sicily: in Caltagirone, at 7:00 PM in Piazza Risorgimento, for CaltaPride, and in Messina, starting at 4:30 PM in Piazza Antonello, for Stretto Pride.
“"These are days of great concern for us," says Gabriele Piazzoni, general secretary of Arcigay. "On the one hand, there's anger at the episodes of violence that still affect our community every day. It happened the other day in Rome, where a young couple was attacked with a belt just for holding hands. But it happens every day in many parts of the country. Even in the cities we travel through with the Pride March, where we sometimes perceive fringes of hostility that regularly erupt into violence. On the other hand, however, there's pride: we are not backing down. Violence is a systemic and cultural problem in Italy, fueled rather than countered by politics. We say it bluntly: the government must assume its responsibilities."”
