"Father and mother" removed from identity cards, Piazzoni (Arcigay): "The Supreme Court rejects Salvini and Piantedosi."“

Bologna, April 9, 2025 – "We've been saying it for years: Matteo Salvini, author of the decree mandating the inclusion of 'father and mother' on minors' documents, is a homophobic and racist minister, unfit for an institutional role. Today comes further confirmation from the Supreme Court," said Gabriele Piazzoni, general secretary of Arcigay.

“"The ruling rejecting Piantedosi's appeal, regarding the identity document of a minor child of a same-sex couple, represents a clear rejection of Salvini and Minister Piantedosi, who championed and defended a blatantly ideological and discriminatory law. When common sense and respect for rights are lacking, fortunately the courts step in to reestablish principles of equality. Now it remains to be seen how long it will take Minister Piantedosi to understand the meaning of this appeal and trash a law that brings shame to this country. In the meantime, today the Court grants a measure of justice to same-sex families, who have been targeted for years by the most vulgar politicians. They deserve our support and solidarity," concludes Piazzoni.
