[:en]On the occasion of the International Day against Homolesbobitransphobia, the Shorùq association
Arcigay Trapani is organizing a procession in Trapani, on May 17th at 6:00 pm, starting from the Casina
Palm Sunday. Established in 2004 to commemorate the decision of the World Health Organization
The aim of the 1990 Health Authority's move to remove homosexuality from the list of mental illnesses is to
to raise public awareness and institutions about the discrimination and violence that people
LGBTQIA+ people suffer based on their sexual identity.
In a historical moment marked by a growing regression on civil rights, not only in Italy but in
in many parts of the world, taking to the streets becomes a necessary, urgent and political act: we need more
that there should never be a law that protects people discriminated against on the basis of sexual orientation and identity
gender. The continuous attacks on the LGBTQIA+ community, particularly the transgender component,
They force us to raise our voices and make ourselves seen. Visibility is a tool of resistance, dignity and
self-determination.
The procession will cross via Torrearsa and via Garibaldi, to end in Piazza Municipio, where it will be
an information stand was set up until 8pm. At that location, Shorùq Arcigay Trapani will
will present to the citizens with its demands, its activities and its commitment to equity, justice
social and respect for differences.
Shorùq invites all citizens, without distinction, to participate. In a democracy, the rights of
