HOMOTRANSPHOBIA: REGIONAL LAW SCHEDULED IN LOMBARDY. ARCIGAY: "IT'S NOT AN ALTERNATIVE TO NATIONAL LAW: REGIONS ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR PREVENTION."“

Milan, May 10, 2022 – Gabriele Piazzoni, general secretary of Arcigay, participated this morning in the press conference organized by M5S and +Europa/Radicali on the scheduling of the regional law against homolesbobitransphobia at the Lombardy Regional Council. On this occasion, the associations present presented Prime Minister Alessandro Fermi with 10 boxes containing nearly 10,000 signatures, collected over the past few months thanks to the petition on the All Out website in support of PDL 109. "It is important," stated Gabriele Piazzoni, "that local institutions also be involved in the debate on combating discrimination and hate crimes, at the very least to bring political forces and their institutional representatives out into the open on these issues. With the start of this process, fraught with obstacles but for which we wish tenacity and success, a new perspective of services and welfare is opening up for Lombardy. I would like to emphasize that regional laws are neither alternatives nor less important than the law under discussion in Parliament: the latter, due to a question of jurisdiction, contains a series of criminal provisions that penalize homophobic and transphobic discrimination and violence; regional laws, on the other hand, are responsible for prevention through training, education, and services," concluded Piazzoni.
