Elezioni Regionali Campania: Trionfa Roberto Fico, continuità garantita sui Diritti LGBTQIA+. Antonello Sannino (Antinoo Arcigay Napoli): “la sinistra vince se unita e se difende diritti civili e sociali”

Campania rewards LGBTQIA+ candidates. Zinno (PD) wins a record number of votes: a record win for Italy's first civil union mayor. Excellent results also for Trapanese (the most voted for in the M5S), Raia (PD), and Fortini (A Testa Alta).

Naples, 25 November 2025 – The regional elections in Campania see the clear victory of Roberto Fico, supported by the center-left coalition. His election ensures the continuity and strengthening of regional policies in the field of LGBTQIA+ rights, a central theme in the election campaign and in the new President's agenda.

The outcome of the polls was marked by an extraordinary affirmation of openly LGBTQIA+ candidates or those particularly committed to civil rights issues.

  • Giorgio Zinno (PD), the first mayor united in civil union in Italy, was the most voted overall of the consultation, obtaining almost 40,000 preferences.

  • Luca Trapanese he stood out as the most voted in the 5 Star Movement, the party of reference of the newly elected President Roberto Fico, consolidating the electoral weight of LGBTQIA+ candidates.

  • Excellent results also for Loredana Raia (PD), first signatory of the Regional Law against homotransphobia, and for Lucia Fortini (list "A testa alta" linked to the outgoing President Vincenzo De Luca), outgoing Councilor and promoter of rainbow help desks and shelters, demonstrating broad consensus for those who have worked concretely on rights.

The center-left coalition achieved significantly higher support, with its leading lists receiving more than double the number of votes compared to the right-wing lists, led by Edmondo Cirielli, which remained well below the expectations announced in recent weeks.

The list is also bad “Popular Campania” (which united Potere al Popolo, PCI and Rifondazione Comunista) which stopped below the threshold of 2.5%. It should be noted that the political platform proposed by the Neapolitan LGBTQIA+ associations had been signed by Roberto Fico, unlike Cirielli (centre-right) and Granato (Campania popolare).

Antonello Sannino, president of Antinoo Arcigay Naples, expressed great satisfaction with the result: “The victory of Roberto Fico, a longtime participant in our Naples Pride and committed to our associations and concerns, is a guarantee for the defense of civil rights in Campania. In recent years, Fico visited our anti-discrimination centers in Naples, Caivano, San Giorgio a Cremano, and Pomigliano d'Arco. He signed our political platform with a clear commitment to revitalizing the great work accomplished in recent years in the Region with President De Luca, whom we thank for addressing our concerns. This work led to the approval of the regional law against homotransphobia in 2020 (while the Zan bill was blocked at the national level), then in 2024 to the establishment of the Regional Observatory, and this year to the creation of rainbow help desks and houses following a public call for proposals involving 29 local authorities across the region. The 'Naples' model wanted by Mayor Manfredi wins, that unitary model which was seen just last year, for the first time, right in Naples, wins, Conte and Schlein together on stage at a Pride parade, with Roberto Fico at the forefront. The left can defeat this right, if it is united and demonstrates through its actions that it has a soul, a clear identity, and unequivocal positions on crucial issues such as the defense of civil and social rights.
