Southern Italy banned for gays according to the results of the

The results of the "Goletta Gay" online survey promoted by Gay.it and released today are an alarm bell regarding the state of effective overcoming of cultural differences between northern and southern Italy regarding sexual and family ethics.

With the exception of a few small provinces in central and northern Italy (including Chieti, the city of homophobic mayor Cucullo, who is facing charges for inciting social hatred from Arcigay), it is southern cities that fill the final slots in the ranking of Italian cities' livability for gays.

It should be emphasized that Southern cities where, despite adverse conditions, a gay club exists (from Naples to Bari, from Catania to Syracuse) manage to avoid the bottom of the rankings: a sign of the important social subsidiarity function performed by the Italian homosexual movement, which is almost never recognized by the institutions.

'' a situation that should give pause to the administrators of southern cities, who have the responsibility of ensuring that Southern Italy is not left out of the process of social and cultural integration of the Europe of rights.

National President of Arcigay
