“"Fertility problems can affect anyone, gay or straight: it would be barbaric to decide whether to treat someone based on their sexual orientation," commented Arcigay national president Sergio Lo Giudice, speaking at the debate opened this morning by Ciriaco De Mita.
The Margherita party's Campania coordinator has in fact contested an article in the draft Regional Statute, currently under discussion, which guarantees "access to adoption procedures and assisted reproduction techniques, without discrimination, in particular, on grounds related ... to sexual orientation.".
“"Not only can we not discriminate between people on health issues," adds Lo Giudice, "but in those states where medically assisted procreation is guaranteed to all women, including lesbians, no particular problems have ever emerged for their children. All statistical studies conducted to date have never highlighted significant differences between children raised by homosexual and heterosexual parents, neither in terms of sexual orientation, affectivity, and sexuality, nor in relation to other aspects of their psychological development.".
“"We welcome the decision of the curators of the draft Regional Statute of Campania as a sign of civility," Lo Giudice concludes. "Homosexual women, when they have no fertility problems, can procreate just like other women, despite what Ciriaco De Mita may say.".
