
In implementation of the resolutions of the National Congress of Arcigay, which was held in March this year, the most important lesbian and gay association in the country, will start in the next few days the establishment of the Provincial Committees.
Since its foundation 20 years ago, Arcigay was a network of political clubs that did not have a specific territorial attribution. With the transformation, they will be born by December 31st. 33 Provincial Committees, to which another 6 or 7 will be added by June 2006.
At the end of the congress process Arcigay will be able to count on approximately 40 Provincial Committees and on almost 70 affiliated associations of a recreational nature, marking a presence in 16 Italian regions.
The project approved by the National Congress has the primary goal of expanding the organized presence of gays and lesbians in the local community by strengthening services for homosexuals, such as counseling centers, helplines, youth groups, film clubs, and community and recreational activities.
The members of Arcigay as of 30 September 2005 are: 157.354, of which 12% women.
