The first coordination meeting of Sicilian Arcigay groups will be held in Messina on April 29, 2006. In recent months, the growth or emergence of gay and lesbian associations in the region has necessitated a coordination meeting aimed at enhancing the LGBT network in Sicily.
TO Catania A Provincial Arcigay Committee already exists, chaired by National Councilor Paolo Patanè. Its headquarters are at Via Spadaro Grassi 7 and it has a comprehensive and up-to-date website (www.arcigaycatania.it).
Two Arcigay promoting groups have also emerged for the creation of a Provincial Committee in Palermo (info [email protected] – www.koinoniapa.it) and others Messina (info 347.4710279). Finally a gay and lesbian group was reborn in Syracuse which will try to restart activities in the city that saw the Arcigay Athena club active for years.
Three important social gatherings complete the regional picture: Club Le Marais in Messina, a gay bar that opened a few months ago in the heart of the city; and Pegas's Club and the Terme di Achille sauna in Catania, meeting places in the island's gay capital.
The meeting will be held in Messina on April 29th from 4pm, at the headquarters of the Association “Officina 28100” and will have on the agenda national and regional political issues, the production of initiatives for the World Day against Homophobia, but above all the beginning of the discussion for the creation of a regional Arcigay coordination.
